Recap of ICUEE 2009

Covercraft had the pleasure of showcasing our SeatSaver WT line at ICUEE 2009. This year's show boasted of being the second largest in it's history. CLICK FOR MORE

Our experience was extremely positive as we were able to network with a variety of contacts in the construction and utility markets. Potential customers from city departments, energy companies, construction firms and truck dealers were all interested in knowing how SeatSaver WT could benefit their organizations. With the growing popularity of our custom-patterned seat protectors and the heightened interest in cutting maintenance costs, it is no surprise that we fielded many inquiries at the show.
Despite some foul weather on the first day of the show, the outdoor exhibit areas were a favorite of show attendees as they viewed all the latest in equipment and technology. There were even opportunities to get some hands-on experience. We were very impressed with the show and would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in the construction and utility markets. An estimated 16,500 registered attendees spent time at the show from October 6-8. 2009. Visit the ICUEE home page for additional information.

Let's Cover It...RVs

It is the First Day of Autumn and RVers everywhere are thinking about storing their pride and joy until spring. RV Covers are a subject of great debate among motorhome and trailers owners around the country. There are misconceptions about RV covers that have given them a bad name over the years. Many of the issues or problems that people have had in the past with an RV cover stem not from the fact that they used a cover, but from the TYPE of cover that they used:

FABRIC
As with a car cover, an RV cover absolutely must breathe. If the cover allows moisture to accumulate between it and the vehicle, then damage to the vehicle is inevitable. In the past, many people have chosen inferior materials to cover their vehicles and have had an unsatisfying experience as a result. Most notably is the use of the age old "blue tarp" as a protective vehicle cover. Most "tarps" are waterproof and that is good...if you're covering a stack of firewood or keeping rain out of a hole in your home's roof caused by a storm; but not if you're trying to protect your vehicle from the elements. Thus, many people have used the "tarp" and experienced damage from trapped moisture and the tarp fabric itself and have sworn off the use of a protective vehicle cover for good. There are several premium fabrics on the market today that allow for evaporation of heat and moisture while protecting the vehicle from damaging UV rays and other environmental hazards. Fabric choices based on local climate and weather conditions can be considered as well as overall cover weight when considering which one would be right for you.

DESIGN

You really have two choices when it comes to RV cover design...custom and universal. As with anything that is "universal", there is always an element of uncertainty. With an RV cover, this uncertainty usually translates into a cover that does not fit the vehicle securely. This condition mostly likely will lead to the cover being damaged due to movement which in turn can lead to the vehicle being damaged by the cover. With a custom cover, you have the ability to designate the size your cover needs to be to protect your vehicle; it's that simple.

When choosing a cover, premium fabrics plus a custom fit will provide the best protection for your vehicle. Period. Granted, these are not as inexpensive as the good 'ole blue tarp, but they do the job they were designed to do...protect your vehicle.

How to Buy and Use a Car Cover

By Glen Wilkinson
Photography by Glen Wilkinson, Kimberly-Clark

Car covers can be a misunderstood lot. There are those car enthusiast swho spend thousands on creating their dream car, devote countless hours researching and learning about their beloved autos, and then spendless than five minutes picking out the very product that can be most vital to its protection. We see it all the time: a pristine car trapped underneath a "shower cap" that a painter wouldn't use to cover a floor. When asked why one would even think of using such an unworthy roll of cloth over their car, the answer is invariably, "Eh, a car cover is a car cover, right?" Wrong.

Technology and chemistry have caught up with the car cover, making today's covers marvels of protection. The key is not so much choosing one particular brand over another, but taking the time to consider exactly what it is you want from a car cover. That may sound strange, considering the "a cover is a cover" mentality, but modern covers offer a variety of features and options tailored to the needs of you and your car. To investigate this, we spoke with Bruce Williamson, Director of Sales & Marketing, Nonwoven Fabrics, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, makers of BLOCK-IT(R) car cover fabrics, to learn about what car owners need to keep in mind when searching for the perfect cover.

How To Clean a Car Cover

Car cover fabric performance can be severely affected by dirt that builds up on and within the material. It can cause the windshield and paint to become dirty “fogged” as well as create “wicking” where it actually helps pull water through the fabric, nullifying any water resistant properties the fabric may have had. Cleaning your cover will help to keep your vehicle clean and to increase the service life of the cover.

NEVER...Clean a car cover in a washer with a center agitator.
NEVER...Use fabric softener.
NEVER...Dry a non-woven or specialty type cover in a dryer. (WeatherShield®, WeatherShield®HP, WeatherShield®HD, Ultra’tect™ fabric & Form-Fit™ covers can be dried in a dryer with regular heat; polycotton, cotton and flannel can be dried on low heat.)

1 - Using a large commercial washer without agitator, wash the cover using 1/4 cup of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner (some WeatherShield and WeatherShield HP covers are compact enough to be washed in a normal size washer). Put the cover in the washer and pour the cleaner in the tub after it’s filled with warm water or pour it directly in the machine (some wall mounted commercial units), then put in the cover and start the machine .
2 - Rinse the cover twice (2X) to remove all the cleaner.
3 - Air dry (unless it’s one of the covers noted above that can be dried in a dryer with regular or low heat).

A cover may also be cleaned by turning it inside-out on the vehicle.
1 - Mix one ounce Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner per quart of warm water.
2 - Spray or sponge onto cover.
3 - Rinse with plain water (until no suds) and allow to air dry.

Simple Green is available in most world markets. If you have any questions, contact them at 1-800-228-0709 (USA) or visit their web-site www.simplegreen.com
